Q: What are the student expectations?
A: Please plan to read assigned material for class discussion. You will need to review class notes, attend class faithfully and on time. You will be expected to participate in class, give presentations, take part in class discussion, write in-class essays, a mid-term and final exam. You must type all formal assignments, such as the final verson on in-class essays, and the written version of your oral presentation. In addition, you will be expected to read literary criticism, literary reviews, and biographical information on the author. Level 1 students are expected to read literary works independently and to be tested on them before class discussion occurs.
Q: What is my teaching procedure?
A: The teaching procedure is student-centered learning, which may incorporate lecture/discussion, small group work, individual and group presentations, writing, peer review, and revision. Relevant audiovisual materials will be used to enhance reading. Journal assignments on works may involve discussion and sharing. Students may expect to present material on individual authors in a "teach-in" format. The students will compare and contrast works of earlier periods in British with works of Contemporary Literature.
