This course is designed to provide the advanced students with an in-depth study of selected works of British literature, several selections of world literature, and the occasional American title. The course will cover material from Medieval England to the 20th century. The students will be reading the best-known works and will also be doing independent, assigned readings of poetry, novels, and plays. This course will require the students to read and analyze literature by means of reflective thinking, and finally, to write effective, critical essays. In addition to the readings assigned, the students will write a series of reports, essays, and research papers on various aspects of literature.

Guideline: Students selecting this course should have achieved a grade of B- or better in English 11 (131).

This course is primarily an intensive and comprehensive study of British Literature. The origins and development of British Literature are explored through a study of British authors from the Middle Ages to the present. Independent reading and research and monthly critical papers are required. An intensive SAT preparation is provided during the first term.
