Teacher expectations and student accountability:
- My classes will follow all school policies and procedures as
printed in the King Philip Student Handbook. Be
aware of the consequences and penalties to students' grades for
excessive absences and for class cuts.
- Absence from class: You are responsible for finding out
what you missed and making arrangements with me to make up the
work promptly. Deadlines apply. (See the school handbook.).
- All students will come to class on time and prepared to
participate and work hard. Required materials for this course are:
Latin text (covered, please), a notebook, and a pocket folder for
hand-outs. I will create a packet for each unit or chapter
section. You must bring the packet to class with you every day. It
is as important as the text. Be organized! Optional, but highly
recommended are 3x5 index cards to create vocabulary flash cards
for home study.
- I will assign classwork/homework every day. This is for
additional practice with the skills and vocabulary I am teaching
in class. Learning a foreign language is just like learning
to play a musical instrument or a sport: it requires daily
practice! In addition, you should think of our class as a team. If
you aren't prepared, the pace of the class will drag, and
classmates won't be eager to work with you in paired activities.
- Extra help: I am available for help after school every
Tuesday. For other days, please tell me that you are coming so I
will be in the classroom. I may be at a meeting or copying papers
and not be in my room. Also, I sometimes have appointments after
school. Setting up a time with me is the best way for us to get
together.
- My goal for this year is to help all students succeed and
acquire good study habits. I will structure varied learning
experiences and activities in my classes in order to help students
learn in their own special way.
Here are other important things for you to consider as we work
together this year:
Class participation:
- contribute eagerly and enthusiastically to class activities
- follow directions the first time they are given ....active
listening
- listen to others when they are speaking....no side
conversations
- keep up with the pace of the classroom activities
Effort:
- correct homework errors (see Grades
for penalties for not doing so)
- show initiative and desire to do well
- ask questions when in need of help
- come to class prepared: text, notebook, pen, hand-outs
Good use of class time:
- arrive in class on time and quickly get organized to learn
- review and study vocabulary words and phrases
- begin homework when time allows and make sure assignment is
understood
Behavior in class:
- be courteous and polite to everyone
- be cooperative and comply with teacher requests
- have a positive attitude and a SMILE !
To the parent:
I encourage all of you to contact me by phone (384-1000) or by
e-mail to arrange an
after-school appointment if a question or concern arises at any
time during the school year. Your student will receive a Progress
Report for each term. I look forward to parental support of my
efforts to work with each student. As Ben Franklin said in 1776,
"We must all hang together or, assuredly we will all hang
separately."
